Marie Paulis began teaching as an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Bridgeport's Fones School of Dental Hygiene in 2006 and has been employed as full-time faculty since 2010. She earned her Associate degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Bridgeport in 1992 and, after working many years in private dental practice, returned to UB to earn her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, completing in 2010. Throughout her time at the University of Bridgeport, Professor Paulis has served many capacities in teaching, including clinical, radiology, online, Dental Materials, an outside clinical rotation, serving as a Master's Thesis adviser, Clinical Practice III and IV, and Senior Clinic Supervisor.

Ms. Paulis is interested in oral cancer research, as well as researching ways to teach students better. Her publications include "Comparison of dental hygiene clinical instructor and student opinions of professional preparation of clinical instructors," published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene in November, 2011; "What keeps you up at night? The prevalence of insomnia and treatment with nonbenzodiazepine sedative hypnotics," published in Access, in July, 2011, and "The influence of patient education by the dental hygienist: acceptance of the fluorescence oral cancer exam," published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene in 2008. She also contributed to an article by Elliott-Smith, S. "Oral cancer devices in the operatory," published in Access in September 2008.

Ms. Paulis have served her professional association, the American Dental Hygienists' Association,at the national, state, and local levels. She have served as a delegate, component trustee, student liaison, and is currently President of the Bridgeport Dental Hygienists' Association.
