Biography
Dr. Mark Setton earned his D.Phil in Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. He earned both his B.A. and M.A. from Songyunkwan, respected centuries-old Korean Institution of higher education that specializes in Confucian Studies. Dr. Setton is an internationally known scholar in East Asian Studies. He has taught at Harvard, Berkeley and Oxford prior to coming to the University of Bridgeport. He is especially known for his studies in Korean Confucianism and in the Philosophy of Well-Being. Dr. Setton is widely published and is regularly invited to speak on East Asian thought both in the United States and in Korea and China. His book Chong Yagong: Korea’s Challenge to Orthodox Neo-Confucianism (SUNY Press) pioneered a new area of academic inquiry in the West. Dr. Setton teaches Confucianism, Taoism, Philosophy of Religion, and East Asian political philosophy in the International College.
