Dr. Kadir Akyuz earned his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. He has 18 years of law enforcement experience with the Turkish National Police. After his graduation from the Turkish National Police Academy in 1997, he was employed in a variety of police departments, namely police stations, homicide unit, organized crimes unit, cybercrimes unit etc. He was awarded many times by the Turkish Ministry of Interior for taking part in successful police operations.

Dr. Akyuz has also work experience with the United Nations. In 2003, he worked as a UN civilian police in the Kosovo peacekeeping mission. He was employed in the “Missing Persons Unit” in which his duty was to identify the bodies of missing persons who were massacred during the Kosovo war and subsequently submit their remains to the families. Following the Kosovo mission, he served in the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia in 2006 where he worked as a police advisor.

His research interests focus on terrorism, political violence, juvenile delinquency and policing issues. His articles have appeared in such publications as International Criminal Justice Review and Turkish Journal of Sociological Research. He also contributed chapters to several books.

Dr. Akyuz teaches criminal justice courses such as Homeland Security and Terrorism, Law Enforcement and Society, and Transnational Crime among others.
