Speakers of the World

Over the years, the University of Bridgeport has awarded numerous honorary doctorates to those who have made great contributions in their field. 

 

The International College has also inducted a number of dignitaries as Honorary Fellows of the New England Center for Regional and International Studies, chosen for their outstanding contributions in advancing world peace, sustainable development, and/or international economic relations.

 

 

	Civil rights leader and Nobel laureate , Martin Luther King Jr. was a Jacoby lecturer at the University in 1961.
	Former Attorney General and U.S. Senator, Robert F. Kennedy spoke at the University in 1968.
	The former First Lady and key figure in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Eleanor Roosevelt, came to speak at the University in 1953.
	Former Undersecretary General of the United Nations, Ibrahim Gambari Gambay received an honorary doctorate from the University and was inducted into the New England Center for Regional and International Studies.
	Ralph Bunche, a professor, political advisor, civil rights activist, Nobel laureate and former Undersecretary General to the United Nations spoke at the University.
	Former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktor S. Chernomyrdin was named a member of the University's New England Center for Regional and International Studies in 1998.
	Congressman Ben Gilman, Chairman of the House International Relations Committee, was recognized by the University in 2003 for his career of service and for the role that he played in re-establishing the United States’ participation in UNESCO.
	The former president of Finland and 53rd President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Harry Holkeri, spoke at the University in 2001.
