Al Grazia, Director of UB's Online Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) Program
Albert Grazia, Ph.D. Director, Doctor of Health Sciences Program

I am excited to be part of the team that brings you the new Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.) degree program at the University of Bridgeport. The value of the Doctor of Health Sciences degree has been increasingly recognized, as more universities continue to add this program. The D.H.Sc. degree is becoming instrumental in filling the need for doctoral-prepared health sciences professionals. This accredited doctorate degree program will afford students with master’s degrees and first professional degrees the opportunity for continuing academic training and advancement in their fields. This 61-credit program is on a three-term per-year schedule that only includes a one-week residency.

The Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.) degree program at the University of Bridgeport was developed by clinicians and educators and designed to meet the needs of our students. Initially launching with two tracks, health care clinician and educator, additional areas of concentrations and elective courses are being formulated for the future. Student concerns and suggestions will be considered as this program and curriculum continues to evolve. My commitment to this program is to include faculty with diverse backgrounds from health care professions and academia who are dedicated to sharing their expertise and knowledge.

Students selected for this program will be individuals who are interested in advancing to the next level in their education and professional careers. This is important whether their commitment is to teaching, administration, global health, clinical research, or simply furthering their clinical expertise to provide better service to the people in their community. Our ultimate goal is to graduate a strong cadre of health care professionals with the knowledge and skills to excel in their professions. Our students can become administrators, researchers, and clinical problem-solvers with skills in research development. Providing a solution to the shortage of teachers with post-graduate education degrees, this program will help develop doctoral-level educators in the health professions.

Although this is mainly an online program, students will be fully supported and engaged within the academic community. UB will provide the essential services that all online students require, including full technical support. Students will benefit from the guidance of an assigned faculty advisor from the beginning of the program and continuing through the successful completion of the dissertation process. My pledge, as director of this online Doctor of Health Sciences degree program, is that my virtual door will always remain open to students.

Sincerely yours,

Albert Grazia, Ph.D.
