Laurel began her career in dental hygiene with an AS from the Fones School.
She obtained her B.S. degree in dental hygiene from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and received her Master’s of Public Health degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Biography
Laurel has an extensive amount of experience in dental hygiene education, private practice, dental public health, and research. She began her career in dental hygiene after graduating from the Fones School. Laurel continued her education and received her B.S. degree in dental hygiene from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and received her Master’s of Public Health degree from the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine. Laurel is starting her fifth year as a full time faculty member for Fones. She is a Community dental public health instructor, first year clinical instructor and teaches in the BS DH on -line program. Laurel’s University activities include representing Fones on the Academic Concerns Committee and assisting with the planning of this year’s University Faculty Development Day.
As a long term resident of Connecticut, Laurel is familiar with the oral health needs of the Connecticut underserved. She is a collaborative care provider with other dental team members in community health facilities throughout the State. Laurel is involved with CT dental community out -reach programs and an avid health fair participant. She encourages students to join her with these programs. She enjoys teaching the fundamental clinical skills of dental hygiene to her students and is currently the principal investigator with a research project for Fones, investigating mixed media teaching methods. She has published papers in the Journal of Dental Hygiene, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Journal of Periodontology, and the Journal of Dental Research. Laurel is a member of the public health honor society Delta Omega - Beta Rho and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She is also an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). Laurel is currently the President of the Connecticut Dental Hygienist’s Association (CDHA), an ADHA leadership merit scholar and represents District II (CT NJ, NY and PA, ) as a delegate at ADHA National meetings .
